What We Fund of The Beneficiaries-

The 10th Annual AIDS Charity Ride funds HIV/AIDS programs and services to the agencies that serve the Southern California area.  Highest priority is given to Direct Services (restricted funds) to the agencies that provide direct HIV/AIDS services to their clients, followed by funding for HIV/AIDS prevention and education programs.

Funds cannot be used for payroll, capital improvements, overhead expenses or other costs unrelated to delivering services and/or education and prevention programs.  Funds are distributed within 60 days following the end of the fundraising period to the agencies listed. (See beneficiaries)  Funds will still be collected up to 30 days following event day.

The Beneficiary Committee of Foundation are charged with reviewing an agencies ability to deliver any services for which the funds are distributed for.

The criteria for selecting these agencies is that is must meet the following guidelines:

  1. 1. That it is an IRS designated 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization

  2. 2. That it's payroll does not exceed 15% of program expenses or does not 30% of total previous year's revenues.

  3. 3. That is has a budget of less than $3.0 Million and/or is classified as a small non-profit agency.

  4. 4. Funds can only be used to provide direct services and may not be incorporated into the organization's general fund.

  5. 5. The agency meets the "Charity Check" guidelines of GuideStar.

  6. 6. Must have a current Form 990 filed with IRS and is in compliance with all State and Federal Tax laws.

Q.  Why not allow well known HIV/AIDS agencies to receive funds?

A.  Many smaller agencies struggle to keep vital programs alive that serve underserved communities or critical service programs.  Smaller agencies are more nimble and can quickly respond to service needs within their community without being mired in policy and procedures while failing to meet the immediate needs of the communities they serve.

Q.  Why only the agencies listed are receiving funds?

A.  Each of the listed agencies have been vetted by the Beneficiary Committee to ensure that these agencies serve the interest of the community they serve.  The committee reviews each agency based on a matrix using a 100 point system.  Regardless of size, each agency is review on its own merits to deliver HIV/AIDS services.

Q. I have a favorite HIV/AIDS agency often overlooked by funders.  How do I get them funded?

A. This is a community based fundraising program.  Therefore, participating clubs can suggest agencies they would like to see funded provided these agencies meet the requirements.  Additionally, the public can make us aware of their favorite charities to consider by sending an email with the name of the agency, the name and phone number of the Executive Director and the agency's address.

The Beneficiary Committee is also charged with conducting an audit of the funds distributed to the agencies and to determine if the agencies used the funds in accordance with the intent of the program.  Agencies who are found not to be in compliance will be required to repay funds distributed and the returned amount will be re-distributed to the remaining approved agencies.

Please visit the "Results" page in two months following the event for a listing of the results of the fundraising event.
